Phra Kring Pawared stands as one of Thailand’s rarest and most prized amulets, gaining renown under the guidance of Somdej Krompaya Pawared of Wat Bowon between B.E.2417-2425. It is specially crafted and presented to the royal family, it holds the esteemed title of the King of all Phra Kring.
Phra Kring derives its name from the distinct “kling kling” sound it makes when shaken. Containing a small ball within, symbolizing the “Ringing Buddha,” these amulets are usually crafted in limited editions. Each piece is distinguished by a stamped seal and a unique serial number at the bottom, acting as an authentication symbol from the temple and guaranteeing the amulet’s authenticity.
Phra Kring Pawaret, a revered bell amulet, was commissioned by Somdej Phra Maha Samana Chao Krom Phraya Pawareswariyalongkorn, and expertly crafted by Phraya Wiang Nai Narueban. Featuring a Buddha image in the Mo Ya posture, this sacred amulet originated from the skilled hands of ten Mu artisans and royal craftsmen during 1839–1891. Renowned for its sacred powers, it has been widely celebrated since the reign of King Rama IV to the present, commanding the highest trading price in the metal amulet category. The amulet’s creation involves the auspicious Phra Phutthaphisek ceremony, accompanied by astrologers, Brahmin rituals, and worship ceremonies, invoking celestial forces to partake in various sacred rituals.
The Pawaret Buddha amulet, cherished by ancient devotees, possesses a distinctive black metal body that reveals a champagne hue upon gentle scrubbing. Crafted from Nawa metal, an alloy of nine sacred metals, including gold, silver, copper, antimony, iron, lead-tin, milk lead, mercury, and zinc, its enigmatic color-changing property symbolizes the impermanence of life, captivating collectors with its rich cultural and spiritual significance.
It is believed to bring happiness and harmony, the pleasant sound aims to enhance self-awareness, fostering spiritual well-being, physical health, and prosperity. Despite its form resembling the Medicine Buddha from ancient China, Phra Kring is revered as Lord Buddha in Thai Buddhist tradition.
